Chimakurthy town is a Major Gram Panchayat converted as Nagar Panchayat vide G.O. No. 355 MA & UD Dt : 22-08-2011 and is fastly expanding during recent years. State Highway, from Ongole to Kurnool is passing through this town. It is developed as a Galaxy Granite industry. The town is nearly 40km from Bay of Bengal and sub soil characteristics are mostly Black Cotton.

The population of the town which was 20,042 in 2001 increased to 30,332 in 2011 with an increase of 66.07% in the last decade.
