Bhimavaram Municipality is the 2nd largest ULB in the West Godavari District of A.P. it is spread over an area of 25.64sq.km. with a population of 1,42,184 (2011 Census). It is known for famous for its (Somarama) Pancharama Kshetra.
Location
It is located 150 kms from Capital city (Amaravathi) and 60 kms from the District Headquarters. It was established as 3rd Grade
Municipality in the year 1948.
There are 7 zones and 39 election wards in this Municipality.
Climate and Rainfall
Bhimavaram Town in general has a tropical climate, winters last from November to February, while summers last from March to June. The annual rainfall is 86mm, most of it received during the months of September and October.
Demography
The Population of the town 137409 which was in 2001 increased to 142317 in 2011 with an increase of 3.57% in the last decade. The sex ratio is 1031 females per 1000 males. The literacy rate is 70%. 56% of the male population and 44% of the female population are literate.

Bhimavaram municipality is blend of rustic charm and different tradition and culture and religious people are dwelling in this area. This developed in the form of education as well as health point of view. In this municipality no dumping yard or compost yard this is first and foremost thing of the Municipality. In our Municipality daily generated garbage 82MT from different types in the form of Wet and Dry (including Markets Waste and other waste). This much of waste is really big challenge to the municipality for dumping or composting without land. The people of Bhimavaram are willing to give daily garbage by mode of DOOR TO DOOR Collection but not allow to sanitary land filling of Open spaces, more over the surrounding Bhimavaram neighbor villagers are mostly depending on either agriculture or Aqua Culture in this regard no one willing to give their land for dumping as well as composting, if any one come forward to allocate land for dumping remaining farmers are opposing to implement the Solid Waste Management activities. This is the main inevitable condition of Bhimavaram otherwise no other environmental issues in this municipality.

There are 50 notified slums and 05 non – notified slums in the town. Slum Population in this town is around 35,916 while BPL Population is around 54,231 and the Percentage of BPL Population comes to 38%.
History & Culture
Bhimavaram is spread in an extent of 25.64Sq.kms in a scenic serene environment and is an important town in West Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh, India. It is located at 16.50N 80.640E latitude and longitude. It is a major centre of aqua culture, trade, commerce, education and industries in the Region. Two important temples are situated in Bhimavaram town one is Someswara Swamy temple and another one is Sri Mavullamma Temple. Someswara Swamy temple is one of the Pancharama kshetra. The temples draw pilgrims from various places all over the country predominantly from State of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
The town is rich in water resources owing to its many tanks and reservoirs. These give it an equitable climate throughout the year. However summer can be particularly hot. The average temperature is around 40.00 C.
There are no. of major industries in Bhimavaram town i.e., Rice Mils, Ice factories, Fish and Prawns export companies etc., are located near to the town resulting migration of people from neighboring villages thus accounts for springing up of slums in and around the town adding the burden of providing civic amenities in general and Storm Water Drainage in particular. This Town located at a distance of 76.00 Kms from the District Head Quarters town Eluru and 450.00 Kms from the combined State Capital Hyderabad.
